A monastery of monks

Had a very early start to Sunday... alarm went off at 4.53am so we could go to see the monks of Luang Prabang walking the streets collecting their alms. In other words, this is when all the monks from all the towns monasteries collect food from the locals. It happens every morning - the locals line up, kneel down, and give spoonfuls of rice, biscuits, cakes or any number of things to each monk as they walk past. Really fascinating to watch.. it's all done in silence, apart from the traffic that still wizzes past. Mike had a basket full of wafers.. i stood by with the camera! This was one of the more interesting shots.. the back row of monks were still collecting, whilst the front row were on there way back to the monestery. I'm afraid there will be more pics in a future album!
